Police arrest 8 suspects in Navrongo anti-crime sweep ahead of Christmas

  Eight suspects have been arrested in Navrongo following a special anti-crime operation by the Divisional Police Command as part of heightened security measures ahead of the Christmas festivities. The operation, conducted on Wednesday, December 18, 2025, targeted identified crime-prone areas and hotspots within the Navrongo township, with the aim of curbing criminal activity and ensuring public safety during the festive season. According to the police, the exercise commenced at about 6:00 p.m. and led to the arrest of eight individuals suspected to be involved in various criminal activities. The suspects are Mohammed Nasiru, 35; Pwoawuvi Isaac, 24; Roger Kansah, 35; Akinkana Akanpiiba, 30; Kingsley Adafula, 22; Abraham Akanporise, 25; Zakaria Mohammed, 25; and Clinton Atinmoliga, 25. The amendment follows sustained concerns from sections of the public, particularly traditional authorities and community leaders in the area, who argued that the existing name could be perceived as exclusionary and potentially divisive. These concerns were formally presented to the Ministry of Education, prompting a review of the university’s naming. Government officials say the change is aimed at promoting inclusivity and reinforcing national cohesion, while also aligning the institution with widely accepted global naming practices in higher education.
