Vehicles burnt after accident involving fuel tanker on Nsawam–Accra road

  Seven vehicles have been destroyed by fire after a crash involving a fuel tanker on the Nsawam–Accra highway in the early hours of Saturday, February 14. Accra-based GhanaTrends.Rako News reported that the tanker was involved in a collision that triggered an explosion, leading to a massive blaze that quickly spread to nearby vehicles. Thick black smoke rose from the scene, attracting the attention of motorists and residents in the area as emergency teams rushed to respond. Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service have been working to bring the flames under control and stop the fire from spreading further along the highway. Meanwhile, no deaths or injuries have been confirmed so far, although emergency responders continue to assess the situation and monitor for any late casualties.

Haruna Iddrisu, Sukparu involved in car crash; both stable

  The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, are in stable condition following a road traffic accident on the Bolgatanga-Tumu road in the early hours of Thursday, February 12. The incident occurred while the ministers and their convoys were traveling to the Upper West Region to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education. All members of the convoy are receiving medical attention, and officials have confirmed that everyone is stable. He said the practice is leading to a situation whereby people with deep pockets, instead of development ideas, find themselves in national elective positions. Commenting on the reported widespread incidences of vote buying during the parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso East Constituency, he said the phenomenon portends danger. “The practice is becoming the norm with the two major parties. That is why we left the NPP, some people gave money and even weed to voters, yes- Ntampi…If I have to pay money to go to Parliament I will stay at home,” he said on Ghana National TV Big Issues on February 11. Police officer shot dead during suspected armed robbery attack on Zebilla–Widnaba road

  A police officer has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers during an attack along the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Upper East Region, authorities have confirmed. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday when two officers travelling from Widnaba towards Zebilla reportedly encountered an ongoing armed robbery operation along the stretch. According to police, the assailants opened fire upon sighting the officers, fatally wounding one of them. The injured officer, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by a responding police team after a distress call was placed. He was pronounced dead on arrival. In a statement, the Regional Police Command said it has launched a full-scale investigation into the attack and mounted a special security operation to track down and arrest the perpetrators. “The Command has commenced a special operation to ensure all persons involved are identified and brought to justice,” the statement said.
