Bolgatanga Technical Institute shut down over violent student unrest

The Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOTECH) has been closed indefinitely after a violent student riot left parts of the school in flames.

The disturbances began late on Thursday, August 14, and continued into the early hours of Friday, August 15, resulting in the destruction of the school’s library and the senior housemaster’s office.

The cause of the unrest remains unknown, as both the police and school authorities have yet to issue an official statement.

Education officials ordered the closure to safeguard students, staff, and school property while investigations are carried out.

The full extent of the damage to the affected buildings has not yet been determined, but no injuries were reported.
